In surveys that I have received from my constituents and from years of working by their side and listening to their thought and concerns, it is clear that there are several issues that are priorities for my district. Their priorities are my priorities and I will use my energy and experience to be an effective voice for these issues and the real life examples my constituents provide around these issues in the legislature. These issues include:
• ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNMENT-Getting our hard earned tax dollars to programs that we want and that we know work.
• ECONOMIC STABILITY-Keeping existing businesses here and building a business-friendly environment for new potential employers.
• PUBLIC SAFETY-Ensuring that our kids, seniors and families are safe on the roads and in their neighborhoods.
• EDUCATION-Working with parents for accessible and accountable education for all our kids.
My guiding principles are the values that I share with the people in my district. Issues today are not always “cut and dried” and there are many variables in each piece of legislation. However, my guiding principles are always consistent. These guiding principles include:
Respect for the Taxpayer
Our state government is funded by the tax dollars of hard-working Oregonians. We need to be accountable for how each dollar is spent and make sure there are outcomes from the money we are spending. Just like families with their budgets, we need to make the tough decisions and fund priorities within existing resources, not raise taxes. I’ve signed a “no new taxes” pledge to do my part to keep us living within our means.
Respect for Free Enterprise
Oregon businesses keep our economy stable, provide jobs and positively contribute to the communities they are a part of. We need to do all we can to build a business-friendly environment to keep our existing businesses strong and to attract new potential companies. As a small business owner myself, I know that changes that impact Oregon businesses often directly impact small, family businesses and we need to ensure these companies have a seat at the table. We need to proudly support our agriculture and timber based companies and do all we can to ensure their success as they are the backbone of our economy. No one grows things better than we do.
Respect for Faith, Family and Freedom
It is my greatest joy to be a mom, wife, and daughter. My faith is my guide and the source of my strength. I have a great deal of respect for the individual and therefore believe strongly in individual freedom. As a former County Deputy Sheriff, I understand the positive outcomes of personal responsibility and the consequences that are the result of abused freedoms. On the school board, I have a history of supporting families and seeking to support them in their educational options for their students whether public school, charter school, home school, or private school.
