Elect Sprenger to a full term in District 17

Oregon House District 17 candidates: Rep. Sherrie Sprenger-R, Dan Thackaberry-D

Our recommendation: Elect the appointed representative, Sherrie Sprenger of Scio, to a full term.

Key reasons: In endorsing Sprenger in the Republican primary last spring, the Statesman Journal Editorial Board wrote, "Appointed to replace Fred Girod before the February special legislative session, she quickly got to work."

That impressive start has continued as she has plunged into representing the interests of the district, which is a mix of small towns, small businesses and natural-resource industries.

She brings a common-sense attitude to her legislative work, and her varied experience ranges from school board member to law enforcement.

Natural Resource Support “Growing” for Representative Sprenger

(Scio)—Representative Sprenger has received the endorsement of the Oregon Farm Bureau, Associated Oregon Loggers, Inc., Oregon Seed Council, Oregon Dairy Farmers Association and AG PAC. These are all grassroots organizations with significant membership in Representative Sprenger’s house district.

“I am very pleased to have such broad support from our natural resource industries. These organizations represent hard-working farmers, ranchers and loggers who contribute a great deal to our economy and to our communities. They are the foundation of my district’s past and present and I will work to ensure that they continue to receive the respect and support they need to be successful in the future,” Representative Sprenger said.

Representative Sprenger represents House District 17 after receiving the appointment to this vacated seat in February. She won her primary election by a wide margin in May and is working to build on that success for the November general election. House District 17 includes the incorporated communities of Detroit, Gates, Idanha, Lebanon, Lyons, Mill City, Scio, Stayton, Sublimity, Sweet Home and Waterloo.

“Ag Pac is a statewide organization representing Oregon’s agriculture, timber and other natural resource based industries. Our industries represent the majority of the economic base in House District 17. We believe that Representative Sprenger is a very effective leader for our industries and for her district. She believes strongly in the important role we have in Oregon’s economy and has proven that she is willing to stand up and fight to protect our interests,” said Roger Beyer, President of Ag Pac.

Representative Sprenger is working hard reaching out to voters to listen and understand how state issues are affecting everyday people. She wants to be a voice in Salem for the people in her district. Her number one issue is accountability to the taxpayer. She will be a watchdog for how tax dollars are spent, work to reduce costs of energy and health insurance for Oregon families, and will strive to get Oregon’s economy moving with strong advocacy for our natural resource industries.
